How to Find Your eScript
in Australia
Your GP issued a prescription. You need to fill it. But you can't find your eScript anywhere — no SMS, no email, no token. Here's exactly where to look, and how to make sure it never happens again.
Save every eScript the moment it arrives — MediRemind Scripts is free for your first month.
What is an eScript and how is it sent?
An eScript (electronic prescription) is a digital version of your prescription. In Australia, eScripts are issued through two systems — eRx and MediSecure — and delivered to you in one of two ways:
- By SMS — a text message sent to your mobile number containing a link and a unique token (a short alphanumeric code)
- By email — some GPs send the eScript link to your email address instead
The token or QR code in that message is your prescription. You show it to the pharmacist, they scan it, and it's dispensed. Each token can only be dispensed once for the current fill, but repeat prescriptions have multiple tokens — one per fill.
Where to look for your eScript
Check your SMS inbox
This is the most common place. Open your messages app and search for: 'eScript', 'prescription', 'mediSecure', 'eRx', or the name of your GP clinic. The SMS will contain a link that looks something like scr.health/XXXXXXXX — that link IS your eScript.
Check your email
If your GP has your email address on file, they may have sent the eScript there instead of by SMS. Search your inbox for 'eScript', 'prescription', or your GP's clinic name. Also check your spam or junk folder.
Ask your GP to resend it
If you genuinely cannot find it — it was sent to an old phone number, you've changed carriers, or it was accidentally deleted — call your GP clinic and ask them to resend the eScript. They can reissue it through their prescribing software at no cost. This is the fastest solution when the original is lost.
Check the Active Script List (ASL)
Australia's Active Script List is a national database where your eScripts can be stored and accessed by authorised pharmacists. If your GP added your eScript to the ASL, any participating pharmacy can access it using your Medicare card or IHI number — even without the original token. Ask your pharmacist: 'Can you check the Active Script List for me?'
Check if you've already used it
eScript tokens are single-use per fill. If you've already dispensed that fill at a pharmacy, the token will show as used. You'll need a new token for your next repeat — which should arrive automatically after dispensing, or you can request it from your GP.
Common reasons your eScript went missing
Wrong mobile number on file
Your GP had an old number. The eScript was sent to a number you no longer use. Call the clinic to update your details and ask them to resend.
Accidentally deleted the SMS
It happens. The SMS arrives from an unknown number and gets cleared with a batch delete. Check your recently deleted messages folder if your phone has one.
SMS blocked or filtered as spam
Some phones automatically filter messages from unknown numbers into a spam folder. Check your spam or filtered messages folder — the eScript SMS may be sitting there.
Changed phone or SIM
If you've changed your number or moved to a new carrier, messages to your old number won't reach you. Update your GP's records and ask for a resend.
Token expired
eScript tokens are valid for 12 months from the date of prescribing. If the token has expired, you'll need a new prescription from your GP.
Sent to email, not SMS
Your GP may have sent it to your email address instead. Check your inbox — including spam and junk folders — for messages from your clinic or the prescription exchange service.
How to never lose an eScript again
The fundamental problem is that eScripts arrive as a single SMS or email — and once that message is gone, so is your prescription. The solution is to save your eScript the moment it arrives.
MediRemind lets you save your eScript directly into the app as soon as you receive it. When your eScript SMS arrives:
Copy the link from your SMS
Open the eScript SMS and copy the prescription link or token.
Open MediRemind
Launch the app — it's free to download on both the App Store and Google Play.
Tap Save Script — it imports automatically
MediRemind reads the token, shows your medication details, repeat count, and expiry date. From that point it's stored safely in the app.
MediRemind also stores paper scripts and tracks repeat prescriptions — so whether your prescription is digital or physical, you always know exactly where it is and how many fills you have left.

Frequently asked questions
I can't find my eScript — what do I do?
Check your SMS inbox first — search for 'eScript', 'prescription', 'mediSecure' or 'eRx'. If it's not there, check your email including spam folders. If you still can't find it, call your GP clinic and ask them to resend. They can reissue it through their prescribing software at no cost.
My eScript was sent to the wrong phone number. What now?
Contact your GP clinic and ask them to update your mobile number on file and resend the eScript. This is a common request and clinics handle it regularly. The new token will arrive within minutes.
Can the pharmacist access my eScript without the SMS token?
Yes — if your eScript is on the Active Script List (ASL), any participating pharmacist can access it using your Medicare card or IHI number. Ask at the counter: 'Can you check the Active Script List for me?' They'll verify your identity and dispense without the token.
How long is an eScript valid for?
eScript tokens are valid for 12 months from the date of prescribing (not the date you received the SMS). After that they expire and you'll need a new prescription from your GP. Repeats have their own expiry dates — each token is single-use for that specific fill.
Can I ask my GP to resend my eScript?
Absolutely. Call your GP clinic and explain that the eScript wasn't received or was accidentally deleted. They can reissue it through their prescribing software — it's a standard request that takes a few minutes.
