What MediRemind does, and does not do
MediRemind organises medications, prescription records, repeat information and reminders. It does not diagnose ADHD, calculate doses, recommend treatments or replace advice from your prescriber or pharmacist. The expiry reminder is based on the date you enter. MediRemind does not independently determine whether a prescription is still legally valid.
Why ADHD medication can be difficult to manage
Around one in 20 Australians lives with ADHD. Use of ADHD medicines has grown rapidly: the population rate receiving PBS-listed ADHD medicines increased from 11 people per 1,000 in 2020–21 to 22 per 1,000 in 2023–24.
ADHD can make future tasks harder to remember and initiate, including taking medication, finding an eScript, checking remaining repeats or arranging a new prescription before the current supply runs out. ADHD prescribing rules differ across Australia
ADHD stimulant medicines such as dexamfetamine, lisdexamfetamine and methylphenidate are Schedule 8 medicines. Schedule 8 prescriptions can have shorter validity periods and additional requirements that vary between states and territories.
Who may diagnose ADHD, initiate stimulant treatment or continue an existing prescription depends on the state or territory:
New South Wales: Authorised continuation GPs can provide ongoing prescriptions to eligible patients who are stable on treatment. Trained endorsed GPs are expected to begin diagnosing and initiating treatment from September 2026.
Australian Capital Territory: Eligible GPs may continue specified stimulant treatment following specialist initiation or review. The ACT pathway commenced on 11 February 2026.
South Australia: Trained GPs may assess, diagnose and treat eligible patients, including prescribing ADHD medication. SA's trained-GP pathway commenced on 28 February 2026.

Rubifen LA capsules remain affected by a shortage expected to continue until 1 September 2026. Concerta, Ritalin LA and most other methylphenidate modified-release products are currently listed as available. Shortage situations can change quickly, check the TGA Medicine Shortage Reports Database or ask your pharmacist.
