How many doses are left in my Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro pen?

The number of doses remaining depends on your prescribed medicine, pen presentation and doses already used. Check the pen label and product instructions, then record each administered dose. MediRemind helps you track doses remaining, opened-pen dates, weekly reminders and refills.

Weekly injections like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro are now part of everyday life for many Australians. The injection itself takes a minute. Keeping track of everything around it is harder.

Which day is the next dose? How many doses are left in this pen? When was it opened? Is it time to order the next one? And which dose step did the doctor say you are on now?

When a dose only comes once a week, it is easy to lose count, especially after a busy week, a trip away or a change in routine.

1. Know how many doses your pen holds

Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro pens do not all hold the same number of doses, and it can depend on the pen and strength you are given. The number for your pen is on the label and in the leaflet that comes with it. Check it once, write it down, and you have your starting point.

From then on, the simplest system is to record each dose on the day you take it. With a weekly injection, each recorded dose tells you exactly how many are left.

For a reminder-focused overview, see our guide to weekly injection reminders for Ozempic and Mounjaro.

2. Note the day you open a new pen

Once a pen has been opened and used for the first time, it can only be used for a limited time. That time is different for Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro, so check your leaflet and note the date you opened the pen.

Knowing the opened date means you can see at a glance when the pen should be discarded, even if there are doses left in it.

3. Keep a record of your dose steps

Many people start Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro on a lower dose and move up in steps, as their prescriber decides. Each step usually lasts a set number of weeks.

Write down each dose step and the date it started, exactly as your prescriber or pharmacist told you. It helps you check which step you are on today and makes conversations at your next review much easier. For more detail, see our guide to prescribed GLP-1 dose steps.

Only change your dose when your prescriber tells you to.

4. Plan your next refill before you run out

Once you know how many doses are left, you also know roughly when the current pen will run out. That is the time to think about your next supply:

  • Do you have repeats left on your eScript or paper script?
  • When does the script expire?
  • Does your pharmacy need notice to order stock?

With supply of these medicines sometimes tight, planning a week or two ahead takes the stress out of finding stock at short notice.

5. Keep a simple weight record

Many people on Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro like to keep a weekly weight record. One weigh-in a week, on the same day and at a similar time, is plenty.

A simple list of dates and weights, or a small chart, is useful to look back on and to share at your next appointment.

6. Rotate your injection sites

Your prescriber or pharmacist may suggest rotating where you inject, for example between the left and right side of the abdomen, the thighs or the upper arms. A quick note of where you injected each week makes it easier to follow their advice. Read more in our guide to injection site rotation.

Bringing it all together in MediRemind

My son Rishi, a medical student, built MediRemind after watching his mum and grandmother juggle medicines, eScripts, paper scripts and repeats. The new Weight management section brings everything above into one screen for your Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro:

Your records stay on your phone. MediRemind organises what your prescriber and pharmacist decided. It does not give medical advice or suggest doses.
